An introduction to the OP–1

An introduction to the OP–1 / Wallpaper, 2012

So Wallpaper* featured an article on the truly awesome Teenage Engineering OP–1 synthesiser last month, and as part of the iPad edition extras, I got to make some films explaining how the thing works.

The tune is a little cheesy and basic, but I hope it gives an introduction as to how easy and quick it is to make music on this great device. I picked it up – with zero prior knowledge of synths – and put together some fun music in no time at all.

Read the article here. Buy the OP–1 here.

Noma Bar x Wallpaper*

April 2012 Issue

The new issue of Wallpaper*, on sale today, features 8 different covers by illustrator Noma Bar, each painted into a physical space and photographed by Luke Kirwan. I think Japan is my favourite.

UPDATE

Noma’s images are now available to buy as A1 or A2 posters, and also as a signed 14×11″ art print. Get yours here.

Lovely stuff from Linus Kraemer, a young illustrator based in London. I recently worked with him on the Rome map pictured above, featured in the current issue of Wallpaper*.

Wallpaper* 15th Anniversary Cover

15th Anniversary cover app / Wallpaper* and Kin, 2011

Next month is Wallpaper’s 150th issue. To celebrate, we’ve just launched an online app that lets you pick your favourite cover from over the last fifteen years (188 covers in total).

Your choice will then be hauled out of the W* archives and physically printed & bound to next month’s issue. Or alternatively, you can mix up 25 different covers to create a unique take on the magazine’s design history.

It’s a fascinating experience just looking at how the various styles have fared over time. Some highlights for me include the good (issue 42), the historic (issue 01) and the downright weird (issue 27).

Take a look here.

Whoooa now I have gotten pretty slack at posting as of late. Apologies.

Here’s some exciting news from the Wallpaper* camp – the website is now taking submissions for this year’s custom covers project. This means you can log in and design your own cover, which will actually be printed and actually bound to your copy of the August issue. It’s bigger and better than last year too. Sign up now.
