And sticking with the theme of photography (what my blog mostly seems to focus on these days…), here is a lovely new book from Aperture, examining the American Road Trip as a theme of 20th century photography. Super nice.

Constructing Worlds

Constructing Worlds at the Barbican — until 11 January 2015

I went to see Constructing Worlds a few weeks ago and didn’t get round to writing my review of it until now. Well, what an incredible show, truly awesome. It’s a collection of 18 massively influential photographers, examining their relationship with architecture and the built environment. Basically, it felt like somebody had made my dream exhibition. Shore, Gursky, Ruscha, Sugimoto, Kander, Evans, the Bechers, Norfolk…. the list of featured artists is truly amazing. There were 1 or 2 in there who I hadn’t seen before, and their was a delight to discover alongside all the big hitters who I’ve been obsessed with for years. Such a great selection of work, highly recommended. Also the exhibition design (by Stefi Orazi) was really nice, as well as the accompanying book.

I’m going again for sure.

The Rehearsal of Space and the Poetic Impossibility to Manage the Infinite

The Rehearsal of Space and the Poetic Impossibility to Manage the Infinite / Edgar Martins, 2014

One of my favourite photographers, Edgar Martins, has just released his latest body of work. He spent the last few years documenting the European Space Agency, and the result is a breathtaking visual survey of this scientific world.

The project is currently on show at the Wapping Project Bankside – I urge you to go and see these prints, some of which are up to 2m in size. Also, the book is available now via The Moth House.

NEW — photography portfolio

Untitled, Hastings / Tim George, 2013

I’m very pleased to announce that my photography portfolio now has its own dedicated website.

I’ve been using Flickr for the past few years, but recently I’ve been taking my photography practice much more seriously and, as such, I thought it was about time my images were on display somewhere a bit more bespoke.

You can visit now at: photo.tim-george.co.uk

Thanks for looking!

Also, a quick note to say this is the first site I’ve built on the Cargo platform, and I found the whole experience absolutely fantastic. Over the last few years I’ve experimented with a lot of the new hosting sites – Squarespace, Koken, etc – and Cargo really blew me away with its simple design, flexibility, and ease of use. Top marks!

BMW Art Drive

BMW 3.0 CSL / Alexander Calder, 1975

A great exhibition currently open in Shoreditch – Art Drive showcases 17 BMW cars given makeovers by some very important artists, like this absolute beauty from Alexander Calder in 1975.

Paul Davis

From ‘A Beautiful Pile Up’ / Paul Davis, 2012

Great stuff from the always-hilarious Paul Davis, who has a show currently on at the Coningsby Gallery in Central London.
