NASA 1976 Identity Guidelines
One of my ex-tutors from college is lucky enough to own this incredible document – an original copy of NASA’s identity guidelines from when they re-branded to the ‘worm’ logo, dated January 1976. He very kindly sent me some black & white copies of some of the spreads. One day I will own this book.

Did you ever get the full guidelines? would love a full-scan update.
No I still haven’t got my hands on the document. But I do have quite a few more scans than pictured above – I will try to do a bigger update soon!

Amazing. One day, in the future, when everything is digital, books like this will be regarded, and rightly so, as works of art.
so cool…

Very cool. The iconic design has put lasted the Nasa dream…
The simplicity of the letterforms work so much better as a logo for NASA than their current logo (blue ball). Love it! I hope the “worm” as they call it comes back some day.
Are you kidding? They drove Ramblers at Nasa?!
On my office bookshelf there’s a similar booklet from about the same period that I guess was part of the same program, titled something like Federal Design Program: Graphic Standards. These documents evoke a time when I was just becoming aware of design.

I believe I have a copy of the orange gov booklet that was published about the new logo from around this time, written by Blackburn, I believe. If there’s interest I can look through my boxes of stuff and retrieve it.
Yes please! Anything NASA-related from this era interests me!
Obviously the coolest part would be the applications to shuttles or rockets.. I don’t suppose the good tutor would share something like that?
I know…you can see a glimpse of the Shuttle pages on the compilation photograph. Unfortunately I don’t have any copies of those.
